Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali human rights activist, author, feminist and politician. She’s lived in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, The Netherlands and the United States. The former member of the Dutch parliament wrote the controversial script for Submission, a film that is highly critical of Islam. The director Theo Van Gogh was killed and her life was threatened. As she risked being stripped of her citizenship due to conditions surrounding her asylum status, she resigned, moved to the United States to work for the American Enterprise Institute and now is back in the Netherlands until she has adequate security provided for her in the United States.
She’s a very controversial figure and like her father, she’s had to make huge sacrifices for her social and political beliefs.
