The brilliant, extraordinarily talented, eccentric and beautiful Kara Walker is an contemporary artist and faculty member at Columbia University. She’s best known for her cut-paper silhouettes. Her works deal with race, gender, sexuality and violence, sometimes all at the same time as with a haunting Antebellum South exhibit of hers I had the opportunity to see recently. She is one of the youngest people to receive the MacArthur “genius grant.”
